Tuscany Walking the Southern Tuscan Trail
Southern Tuscany is a very special corner of the world. While less well known than the area around Florence, it remains remarkably unspoiled with its own special beauties and attractions. Our Tuscan walking tour takes you off the beaten track to discover the hidden side of Tuscany. We walk through this magical landscape of olive groves, vineyards and ancient oak trees to tiny Medieval villages, where time seems to have stood still. Our route follows the Via Francigena, an ancient Roman road , along which pilgrims wended their way in the Middle Ages. Our walking adventure starts in the picturesque village of San Casciano dei Bagni, famous for its thermal springs and far from the tourist trail. We travel north to Val d'Orcia, a series of rolling green hills covered by vineyards, wheat fields and olive groves to the perfectly preserved Renaissance village of Pienza. Our journery ends in Montalcino, one of the best preserved hill villages in Tuscany. Famous for its wine we walk to vineyards to taste the renowned red wine, Brunello di Montalcino.
